In supporting our events and projects, the Marketing Department will provide promotional writing and graphics in communication with students on Discord and other social media. The Vice-President of Marketing will be responsible for determining the timeline, delegating tasks and overseeing the development of templates.
Requirements: Experience operating an organizational account on social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WeChat, or Discord. Excellent content creation and graphic design skills are required to produce high-quality graphics with designers on a weekly basis. A portfolio is required to be submitted and will be reviewed by our team. If the candidate has experience as head of marketing in any similar capacity in the past, growth results and performance will be validated by a background check. Experience in calendar planning, category management, brand management, or strategy consulting via internships is highly preferred, with a demonstrated business acumen and strategic mindset. UTMIST industry-focused events focus on bringing engineers and co-founders of large tech firms and AI startups to share with us career insights, technology tools, and their journeys to success in the AI industry. UTMIST has partnered with Microsoft, AWS, AMD, and many more to host hackathons, debates, and career panels. As Industry Relations Outreach Coordinator, you will engage with external stakeholders via coffee chats and emails and be accountable for the success of sponsorships as a key priority.

The Events Director will help with the organization of the great events that UTMIST holds every month. This position is a great opportunity to gain experience in organizing large-scale events that hundreds of students attend. In addition, event directors will help manage the preparation for such events and provide input on how different parts of an event will eventually turn out in practicality.

This year, we are hiring for a new team – the Open Source Team. Collaborating with IEEE UofT Branch, this team is focused on improving the cloud infrastructure that most modern applications are built on top of. You will have the opportunity to contribute to industry standard software projects which are developed by developers at companies such as Google, Red Hat, AWS, and Microsoft.
As part of the Cloud team, you will be expected to participate in our two main initiatives:
Contribute to large open source cloud infrastructure projects (for example Knative, Kserve, Kubernetes) as part of a team and in collaboration with IEEE UofT. Assist in planning and executing a series of cloud/open source workshops in collaboration with IEEE UofT.

Academic Directors are critical members of UTMIST’s Department of Academics - the team responsible for all educational endeavors related to Machine Learning. As Academic Directors, you will develop and lead workshops in the domain of expertise, host paper readings, host beginner office hours, support the operations of UTMIST’s Mentorship Program, and work closely with the VP Academics to consolidate relevant educational ML content.
Requirements: We are looking for a strong academic record. You will have probably completed at least one course related to machine intelligence and can comprehend academic papers and articles. Candidates should have reasonable proficiency in English communications skills and have experience with organizing workshops and paper reading discussions. Relevant work experience, such as research, engineering, and/or teaching in the field of machine learning is a plus.

UTMIST’s monthly newsletter features exciting news related to machine learning research and industry and is sent to thousands of email subscribers and made publically available on Medium. Technical Writers will have the opportunity to create UTMIST’s content, read newly published academic papers and industry news, and gain valuable knowledge in AI research and industry. They will also be responsible for providing proofreading for project developers and event organizers.

Marketing Directors at UTMIST will have ownership over the club’s brand, social media, content portfolio, and a team of Graphic Designers. Marketing Directors will work on either Social Media Operations or Graphic Design based on the skill sets you bring to the team. As Marketing Director, Digital Media, you’ll be accountable for the operations and maintenance of all UTMIST virtual marketing channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, newsletters, and Discord. Acting as a strategic partner to the Marketing Directors (Graphic Design), you will be providing timely feedback on the content and connecting with other departments and club executives to build a marketing calendar. As Marketing Director, Graphic Design, you’ll be leading 1-2 designers or associates directly and will be responsible for the production of 2-6 high-quality digital marketing content per week (e.g., posters or graphics). You’ll be developing a solid content strategy to ensure the success of marketing campaigns.
Requirements: Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Discord. Hands-on experience managing more than two of these following media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Discord, Instagram, YouTube, and WeChat is required. You will be working with Photographers, Videographers, Outreach Coordinators, and a group of students who have insights and knowledge of Machine Learning, Computer Science, and Machine Intelligence at UTMIST. At the University of Toronto, there are many administrative and student entities that interact with UTMIST. Campus recognition and funding are essential to UTMIST’s continued success in student activity. You will manage the administrative affairs with these entities, such as UTSU and EngSoc, and oversee the club’s operating budget and sponsorships/donations. Specifically, based on the skill sets you bring to the team, Finance Directors will either work on budgeting for the club or funding applications. You will work with all stakeholders within the club, led by the VP Internal Affairs.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have experience in other student organizations, especially in administrative affairs and relations with the University of Toronto.
